Method & formula
Stock cover divides the inventory you have by average daily demand. The result tells you how long that stock would last if demand continued at the rate you entered.
- Stock cover days = current stock ÷ average daily demand
Example
500 units on hand with average demand of 20 units a day gives 25 days of stock cover.
FAQ
What if average daily demand is zero?
There is no finite consumption rate, so a stock-cover duration cannot be calculated.
Is stock cover the same as reorder point?
No. Stock cover tells you how long current inventory may last. Reorder point tells you the stock level at which a replenishment order should be placed.
