Method & formula

The input is encoded as UTF-8 and passed to SubtleCrypto.digest. Cryptographic hashes are one-way digests; this tool does not encrypt data and cannot reverse a hash.

Why is SHA-1 not offered?

PBT defaults to modern SHA-2 algorithms for this general-purpose tool.

Can I recover the original text from the hash?

No. A cryptographic hash is not reversible encryption.
