document utility
Reduce PDF file size locally with lossless, balanced or strong compression. PBT keeps text and vectors as document content and never returns a larger file.
Local PDF compression
Up to 50 MB. Balanced is recommended for most documents. PBT does not rasterize whole pages in any current mode.
Result
Lossless mode compacts eligible PDF structure only. Balanced and Strong can also downsample and recompress supported embedded raster images. Text and vector content remain document objects, and the result is verified before PBT returns it. If the candidate is not smaller, PBT keeps the original file.
A text-heavy PDF may shrink substantially in Lossless mode when its internal structure is inefficient. An image-heavy PDF usually needs Balanced or Strong mode because raster data often dominates the file size.
No. Some PDFs are already efficiently encoded. PBT does not return a larger result simply to claim that compression took place.
Lossless mode does not deliberately alter embedded image streams. Balanced and Strong deliberately recompress eligible raster images; Strong trades more image detail for a smaller file. Neither mode rasterizes whole pages.
Yes. The current image-aware modes target eligible embedded raster images while retaining text and vector content as document objects.
PBT refuses them because rewriting a signed PDF would invalidate its existing digital signature.
Your PDF and its filename stay on this device while the tool runs. PBT does not upload or store the document.
