Method & formula
Conversion rate divides visits that completed the target action by total visits and turns the result into a percentage. Comparisons are only meaningful when the conversion event and traffic denominator are defined in the same way.
- Conversion rate % = converting visits ÷ total visits × 100
Example
125 converting visits from 5,000 total visits gives a conversion rate of 2.5%.
FAQ
What happens if visits are zero?
There is no valid traffic denominator, so the conversion rate cannot be calculated.
Should I compare conversion rates across channels?
Only if the underlying definitions are comparable. Traffic intent, attribution rules and different conversion events can make a direct comparison deceptive.
